They used to be considered part of the fungi kingdom, so many mycologists – such as Skye Webb – still study them. About the teacher:

Skye Webb is a professor at Chattanooga State Community College and a Chattanooga native. Her higher education began in Chemistry until she moved on to earn her master’s degree in environmental science at UTC. She is a naturalist, mycologist, and environmental educator. Skye loves all things fungi almost as much as she loves teaching people about it!
