Beekeepers! Have you been asking yourself what the heck do I do with my bees in the Winter?

This class is designed to give you the practical skills and the confidence you need to successfully overwinter your beehive(s) in Eastern, as a new beekeeper or someone who hasn't had overwintering success but doesn't want to give up!

Topics of discussion will include:

  • How to understand your individual colonies
  • Help, I have dead bees!
  • Types of hives and how they work
  • Feeding bees in the winter
  • How to insulate your colony (demonstration of Mountain Camp Method)
  • Helping small colonies make it through winter
  • Minimizing winter damage in your apiary
  • Mountain-Camp method of feeding (demonstration)

About the teacher:

Carmen Joyce, a second-generation beekeeper, has propelled NoogaHoneyPot since its inception in 2019. She has completed the Journeyman portion of the Master Beekeeper Program at the University of Montana. With 35 hives, Carmen boasts a 100% overwinter success rate, underlining her expertise and commitment to sustainable beekeeping. All of her bees are feral colonies collected either from swarms or honeybee removals. Carmen harnesses her background as an educator to enrich and inspire, teaching the nuances of beekeeping through classes, speaker events, and a vibrant social media presence.
